Compared with Git
⚡ 3 min readGit versions the files in a code repository. Transcodes versions a Persona: an Instruction, Rules, Skills, and a Knowledge Base. Keep using Git for the product. Use Transcodes when the thing you want to share is the agent setup.
What you do in the desktop app
- Create or edit the Persona on this computer. Files stay under
~/.transcodes/personas/<name>/. - Sign in and upload. That publishes a new numbered revision to the organization.
- A teammate downloads the latest revision, then applies it on their own device.
Applying writes the host files on that device. Upload does not apply the Persona for anyone else. See Versioning and Apply.
Where it applies
| App | Apply target |
|---|---|
| Cursor | The current project |
| Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity | The current project, or a global Persona on this device |
What this is not
This is not a claim that Git is a poor tool for code. A repository and a Persona solve different jobs. One person on this computer can use Transcodes free. An organization is $6 per accepted member each month.
